The 8+1 capacity Colt Model 1903 .32 ACP semi-automatic pistol foreshadowed its even more famous future Colt Model 1911 descendant. But the single action only (SAO) blowback operated 1903 intrigues and captivates on its own merits. It looks like, and in many ways actually is, a more modest 1911.

The differences start in back. The 1903 is hammerless. And instead of the long beavertail, the 1903’s is docked. The grip angle is the same or about the same between the two. Its proportions are shorter and the grip safety is less obvious. The rear slide grips, racetrack oval trigger guard and solid curved trigger grace both.

The 1903 has a contrast finished 3.75” long 4140 steel barrel. Colt uses the same material for its Royal Blue finished frame and Royal Blue steel slide. The combination is complimented by great looking diamond checkered American black walnut grips. This same model is also available in Parkerized grey. Thus, the slide and frame are both Parkerized grey, but the contrast barrel and wood grips are the same.

Atop the slide you get a fixed front sight paired to an adjustable rear one, and weight comes in at a neat 24 ounces (1.5 pounds).

Colt also offers other variants with barrels ranging between 3.0” to 4.0” with commensurate weights of 16 to 32 ounces.
