Ed Brown Basics

Brown's Gun Shop was founded in 1968 by Ed Brown as a side business to his career as a tool and die maker, CNC programmer and CAD/CAM designer. It wasn't until 1988 that Brown quit his day job to launch a full-time 1911 parts business. Within months, Brownells added his parts to its world-famous catalog. Brown's gunsmithing also continued to ascend. Brown was awarded The Pistolsmith of the Year award in 1991 by the American Pistolsmith Guild. In June of the next year, Ed Brown Products was incorporated and began to manufacture a complete line of 1911 parts and accessories. Brown retired in 2010, successfully turning the business over to his two sons. The company operates out of a more than 20,000-square-foot facility in Perry, Missouri.

Ed Brown 1911 Specifics

Ed Brown 1911 handguns come in a variety of series and styles. They share a host of characteristics though, including forged, hand-polished and hand-fitted frames and slides; lowered and flared ejection ports for improved ejection; beavertail grip safeties to improve recoil and accuracy; three-hole style triggers; laminate wood grips with double diamond patterns; and beveled magazine well. Brown also claims that it's the only manufacturer to have a slotted and chamfered hammer that is "mated precisely with the Ed Brown Perfection sear and Perfection disconnector," with each fully machined "from the highest quality alloy bar stock steel, making for a light trigger pull and crisp break which will last for thousands of rounds."
