FMK Firearms of Placentia, California has taken a semi-clean slate approach to designing its FMK Firearms Elite striker-fired single-action 9 mm. Capacity is 10+1 or 14+1 depending on magazine.

There are actually four guns in the lineup: the Elite, Elite Plus, Elite Pro and Elite Pro Plus. All four models come with the optic ready “race slide” detailed further below. The Elite Plus also adds a threaded barrel. The Elite Pro has the Burris Fastfire 3 Optic, but no threaded barrel. And finally, the Elite Pro Plus has both the threaded barrel and the Burris Fastfire 3 Optic.

Key metrics are as follows. The barrel can be had in either 4.00” or threaded 4.50” lengths. Height is 5.09” and width is 1.14”. Overall length is 6.85”. Thanks to polymer construction, the gun comes in at 23.45 ounces or just under 1.5 pounds.

The stainless-steel barrel has a Melanite finish, 1 to 16” LH twist and six (6) grooves.

The high-carbon steel slide mates to a polymer frame that can be had in three different colors: black, OD green and the particularly fetching burnt bronze.

FMK’s brilliance is particularly telling on the slide. It’s been lightened a top port and simple profile reduction. It has a long step-back cut along the front flanks and a long racetrack lightening port across the top between the front sight and the ejection port. It has Glock 19 compatible front and rear sights that are tall enough for suppresser usage. Rather than retroactively engineer the slide by cutting it for optics plates, the red-dot optical mounts for Vortex Viper, Vortex Venom or Trijicon RMR are built in. This simple, efficient idea begs the question of why isn’t everyone doing it?

Additionally, the slide also has vertical grip serrations in back and front. The width of the individual serrations as well as the spacing between them is different from most other guns on the market. This is a nice touch that helps the gun stand out.

The trigger guard is oversized with plenty of room in front of the trigger. The grip is textured and contoured with a trio of finger recesses that benefits further from the undercut behind the trigger guard.

There is more. The Elite trigger has a short trigger pull. The narrow grip fits hands of all sizes. It also comes with a shock-absorbing back strap. Push the magazine release buttons and the drop-free magazine should drop straight out. And the magazine well is beveled for you to shove a new magazine in quickly and efficiently.
