Tales of the FN P90
Founded in Herstal, Belgium, in 1889, today FN Herstal has a U.S-based manufacturing plant in Columbia, S.C. The Columbia plant helps produce a multitude of weapons for the U.S. military, including M16 rifles and M2 machine guns. Early on, FN also manufactured cars and trucks in Belgium until the early 1970s. The FN P90, which is considered by some as a submachine gun or compact assault rifle, was designed in response to NATO requests for a compact firearm that a variety of groups could use, including vehicle crews, support personnel, Special Forces and counter-terrorist experts. The weapon is also used by law enforcement agencies around the world, and by U.S. Secret Service. A
semi-auto carbine version of the P90 was created for civilian use in 2005.
