The rimfire German Sport Guns GSG 5 is chambered in .22 LR HV. German Sport Guns (GSG) makes them in the picturesque village of Höingen, which lies about 80 miles northeast of Cologne. American Tactical Imports (ATI) of Summerville, South Carolina (outside of Charleston) then imports them into the USA.

The gun has several good features. For starters, it has an F/S (fire/safe) switch. The stock is held in place by a bolt and screw. It also has a drift-adjustable rear sight.

For the standard rifle (GSG-5 L), pull pressure is about 5.6 pounds. Overall length is 33.66”, height is 8.12”, width is 2.09” and the 6-groove 1:16” twist ratio barrel is 16.3” long. The gun weighs 6.7 pounds.

The shorter GSG-5 A has a 9.06” length barrel, is 28.11” overall and weighs 6.38 pounds. It is otherwise the same as the GSG-5 L.

The machine pistol GSG-5 P has the same 9.06” length barrel as the GSG-5A. It is 18.66” overall and weighs 5.88 pounds. It loses the buttstock and has an endcap instead. Sight radius on these models is an expansive 13.39”.

The 7.40” long barreled GSG-5 PK is 15.27” overall, has a 10.16” sight radius, and weighs 80.96 ounces, which is a smidge over 5 pounds. The PK is fronted by a birdcage flash suppressor.

The GSG-5 SD is like the GSG-5 L, but includes a barrel shroud.

The multitool provided with each GSG-5 facilitates disassembly for maintenance.

The trigger guard forms a parallelogram with the grip. There’s a nice undercut at the back of the trigger guard and a beavertail on the grip’s other side. The grip is otherwise straight diagonal on both front and back without any finger recesses or palmswell.

The good raft of accessories makes GSG-5s compelling. You can get a variety of magazines (2, 10, 15 or 22 rounds), a retractable stock, folding stock, three-rail tactical handguard, fore grip, a 4x28 illuminated reticle scope, flashlight adapter, laser adapter, red-dot 1x40 sight, etc.

The gun debuted in 2008 to excellent acclaim. GSG started operations making airsoft guns, a sport that originated in Japan, but obviously GSG’s guns are Made in Germany.
