History of Galco

Galco International was founded in 1969 by Richard N. Gallagher in Chicago, Illinois. Known then as "The Original Jackass Leather Company," Gallagher constructed holsters of horsehide. In 1980 the company name was changed to Galco International, and then in 1983 the business moved from Chicago to its current location in Phoenix, Arizona. Galco gained national fame when its Jackass shoulder system began making appearances on the 1980's TV series Miami Vice and has since appeared on more films and TV shows than any other holster maker. Today, Galco holsters and rifle slings (approved by the National Tactical Officer's Association) are issued to law enforcement organizations from federal agencies to local police departments. Galco shoulder holsters are very popular among military personnel from all over the United States armed forces. A total of $100,000 in donated holsters have been donated to American armed forces personnel as part of Galco's Holsters for Heroes program.
