The company was founded by Austrian engineer Gaston Glock in 1963. The company originally produced steel and plastic parts, and Glock didn't design his first firearm until after his 50th birthday. The Glock 17, designed for professional law enforcement, according to the manufacturer, is a 9x19 mm auto pistol. Glock claims it is the most widely used law enforcement pistol worldwide.

The gun is 8.03 inches long, 5.43 inches tall and 1.18 inches wide. The Glock 17 weighs 32.12 ounces when loaded and 25.06 when unloaded. The barrel is 1.26 inches in height and 4.48 inches long, extending 6.49 inches between sights. The barrel rifling is right-handed and hexagonal with a 9.84-inch twist. The trigger takes about 5.5 pounds of pressure to depress and it travels about .49 inches. Standard magazine capacity is 17 rounds.
