Glock 18 Specs

The Glock 18 was commissioned by the Austrian EKO Cobra counter-terrorist unit who wanted a machine pistol-class firearm. The Glock 18 has a selector switch allowing the shooter to choose either semi or fully automatic firing when not on safety. This pistol can be used with a detachable shoulder stock to steady it while in fully automatic mode. Although the Glock 18 can be used with more typical Glock 17 magazines with a capacity of 10, 17 or 19 rounds it is most often used with an extended 33 round capacity magazine.

Some Glock 18 models compensate for the muzzle rise that occurs during automatic firing. This is achieved via keyhole openings, or cuts, along the slide and machined into the barrel to allow gases to vent upwards. Although many parts of the Glock 18 are interchangeable with the Glock 17, the selective fire, frame and slides are not. Chambered for 9x19mm Parabellum the Glock 18 is a versatile weapon in the field, though not available for civilian purchase.
