Glock 34 History & Parts
The Glock line of semi-automatic pistols is widely acknowledged as an industry leader. With extensive experience in the field of polymers, Glock was uniquely poised to enter competition for the new duty pistol requested by the Austrian Military in 1980. The sleek and modern Glock 17 was the result, leading to a plethora of other Glock models and variants and worldwide recognition from military and law enforcement agencies.
The Glock 34 debuted in 1998 and is the competition version of the Glock 17 and draws heavily from the now-discontinued Glock 17L design. With a shorter slide and barrel than the Glock 17L, the Glock 34 meets maximum size requirements for most sanctioned sport shooting events, however its slide and barrel are still longer than the Glock 17. The Glock 34 has an extended magazine release and extended slide stop lever as well as an adjustable rear sight. The sides of the front of the slide are slanted rather than squared and parts of the slide are milled out so as to reduce both muzzle and slide weight and better balance the weapon.
