About the Manufacturer
Founded in 1963 by Austrian engineer, Gaston Glock, Glock originally built plastic and synthetic parts. What Glock lacked in ballistics experience he made up for in synthetics and helped create the world’s first polymer-framed pistols. These pistols are lighter and easier to maintain than typical steel or aluminum.
The 411 on the 9mm Glock
In 1980, when the Austrian military sought a replacement duty pistol for the Walther P38, the Glock 9mm – then called the Glock 17 - answered the call. Outperforming pistols from other manufacturers, the Glock 9mm quickly became a standard sidearm for several European and NATO forces. By 1992, the United States owned 70 percent of all 9mm Glocks.
Currently in its fourth generation, the 9mm Glock is popular among law enforcement and armed services worldwide. Its frame, magazine body, and several components are resistant to shock, caustic liquids, and extreme temperatures because of the polymer material.
