The Heritage Arms 6-Shot Rough Rider Special Edition line is a range of 34 immensely affordable 6-shot small bore .22 LR / .22 WMR revolvers that apply a single template to 4.75”, 6.5” and 9.0” barrel lengths. The appeal of these guns is multiplied many times over by an impressive array of grip options.
All 6-Shot Rough Riders are single-action rimfire .22 LRs, but some also come standard with a .22 WMR accessory cylinder permitting their operators to flip between the two different types of ammo. There are various combinations of Rough Riders can be had in a variety of truly standout grips – or rather grip laminations - that include American flags, Pearl, various woods, pinups, camouflage and snakeskin.
The 6-Shot Rough Riders design echoes larger caliber revolvers, but basing these on .22 LR and .22 WMR makes everything less expensive. Even then, however, Heritage has added some nice content, mainly in the sights for the 9.0” barrel gun (discussed further below).
There are two finish options: gleaming black Cerakote or a beautiful black satin. In either case, the finish swaths the barrel, frame and cylinder, imparting corrosion resistance and durability. Also, these guns have a thumb/hammer safety.
Let’s note some metrics. The 4.75” gun measures 10.03” overall and tips the scales at 30.6 ounces. The 6.5” barrel length gun is 11.78” long overall and weighs 33.4 ounces. The 4.75” and 6.5” barrel guns have a fixed fin front sight and a notch rear sight.
The single 9.0” barrel length gun is the Cocobolo RR22MB9AS. It has an overall length of 14.28” and weighs 36.9 ounces. It comes with both the .22 LR and .22 WMR cylinders. It also has adjustable front and rear sights that are easily adjusted using a flat-head screwdriver. The orange fiber optic front sight sits atop a ramped base. And of course this revolver has beautiful looking cocobolo wood grips.
The .22 LR cylinders have the reverse bullet fluting that is fairly common, but the .22 WMR accessory cylinder is smooth except its rear notching needed to advance the cylinder between rounds.
