Founded in 1995 by Kook Jin Moon, owned by South Korean business group, and headquartered in Blauvelt, New York Kahr Arms specializes in compact and mid-size semi-automatic pistols. Kahr pistols feature polymer or stainless steel frames, single-stack magazines, and double-action-only striker firing actions.
The Kahr action is a Browning locked-breech design featuring a striker-operated firing pin with a passive firing pin safety – a truly hammerless action. It allows the firing pin block to be located further to the rear of the slide and therefor further from possible contamination by combustion gases and powder fouling. This innovation is patented and employed on all Kahr pistols, serving as a backbone for success for Kahr Arms.
The first Kahr Arms pistol widely available was the K9, a full power 9mm pistol, and was soon followed by the P9, a similar weapon with significantly less weight.
Kahr Arms have made an appearance on the silver screen many times in some of your favorite films. The K9 helped take down New York drug lords and police corruption in the 2000 film Shaft staring Samuel Jackson and Christian Bale. Another notable appearance came in 2009 in the New York City Subway thriller The Taking of Pelham 123 starring Denzel Washington and John Travolta. The K9 and MK9 have also been seen on TV on the popular shows CSI, Baywatch, NYPD Blue, Nash Bridges, Nurse Betty, Diagnosis Murder, and Alias.
