Les Baer History

Founded by Les Baer Sr. in 1991, Les Baer Custom Inc. specializes in semi-custom 1911 pistols and AR 15 style rifles. Although the shop was originally founded in Hillsdale, Illinois, increasingly restrictive gun laws prompted a move to LeClaire, Iowa, where Les Baer operations remain today.

With a long career in pistol-smithing Les Baer Sr. opened his custom shop to great success, quickly becoming known for his innovative designs and high quality construction. From competitive 1911 pistols to duty and self-defense models, Les Baer 1911s offer both style and performance. In fact the accuracy and reliability of Les Baer pistols were cited by respected firearm instructor Clint Smith when asked why he allowed Les Baer use his Thunder Ranch logo.

Les Baer eventually branched out to AR 15 type rifles, crafting semi-automatic .233 and .308 rifles. With new designs and models available every year Les Baer stock ranges from elegantly utilitarian tactical pistols to commemorative designs for the 100th birthday of the 1911 pistol and homages to muscle cars. Les Baer also offers individual pistol and rifle components, parts and accessories for dedicated shooters.
