The Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag is the world’s first 3.5” chambered pump shotgun. Actually the 835 is a family of seven 5+1 12 gauge shotguns, but more about that in a bit. The 3.5” diameter Accu-Mag barrel allows shooters to fire the latitude of 2.75”, 3” and 3.5” shells and can handle both steel and lead pellets! The 835 has been designed with a vent rib barrel that is over-bored to 10 gauge to reduce felt recoil and muzzle jump for faster follow up shots. Best of all, it also provides tighter and more uniform shot patterns.

Most of the 835 Ulti-Mag shotguns have a pale yellow fiber optic sight in front and a highly rated Marble Arms bullseye steel sight in back. This pairing works in concert for fast and accurate target acquisition. Height adjustments can be made using the set of shims included with the package. The outlier 835 Ulti-Mag Combo/Field features bead sights in front and back.

Like other Mossberg pump-action guns, the 835 Ulti-Mag features a quiet, top mounted red dot slide safety, dual extractors, twin action bars and an anti-jam elevator that’s designed for slick movement.

The 835 capacity including one in the chamber is six 2.75”, six 3” shells or five 3.5” shells.

Let’s talk a little about the 835 Ulti-Mag’s variants, of which there are seven. The smallest is the 20” barrel 835 Ulti-Mag Tactical Turkey. It has a six-position adjustable butt stock, Mossy Oak Obsession camouflage, a ported X-Factor choke, a total length of 37” and weighs only seven pounds.

Other variants come in 24”, 26” and 28” barrel lengths. The 28” barrel is 48.75” long overall. The 835 Ulti-Mag Combo/Field has a wood stock and a blue barrel finish. The rest have polymer stocks, dual combs and a camouflage scheme designed by Mossy Oak. And there is a variety of chokes for different versions.

Three variants include “Combo” in their name. This trio comes standard with a cantilever scope base.

O. F. Mossberg and Sons has been in business since 1919, the year after the end of World War I, making the company over 100 years old now. Don’t let the Swedish name fool you; they’re based in New Haven, Connecticut. Mossberg spent its early years making pistols, but during World War II, the company made components for .50 caliber Browning M2 machineguns, etc.

While Mossberg is based in New Haven, Connecticut, its production facilities are now located in Eagle Pass, Texas on the US-Mexican border.
