The O.F. Mossberg & Sons Mossberg 930 Hunting is an impressive and expansive subset of Mossberg’s 930 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun lineup. These autoloaders are impressive! The 15 or so current production models group into Hunting, Tactical and Sporting models covering a wide variety of options and needs.

The 930 Hunting subset includes the 930 Hunting All Purpose Field, 930 – Turkey, 930 Pro-Series Waterfowl, 930 – Waterfowl, 930 – Snow Goose, 930 Slugster, 930 Hunting Turkey/Field, 930 Combo Deer/Waterfowl, 930 Combo Field/Security and 930 Pro-Series Sporting.

All are 4+1 capacity. Except where otherwise noted, most have either 24” or 28” length barrels with overall lengths about 20.5” longer, 13.875” to 14” length of pull, vent ribs, front fiber optic sights, chokes and synthetic stocks. Weight ranges typically are 7.5 to 7.75 pounds.

All 930 Hunting guns feature drilled and tapped receivers so you can mount a Picatinny rail for optics. The lineup’s synthetic forend and stock models have Mossberg’s adjustable stock drop spacer system. These guns also have a dual gas-vent system that reduces felt recoil.

In all cases, you get a forend and stock with comfortable contours and excellent texturing on both parts. Moving back, you’ll find the ambidextrous tang safety with the standard “forward is safe” and “rearward is ready to fire” slide design. There’s also a cocking indicator that automatically protrudes when the gun is cocked. At bottom is a quick-empty magazine release button. Push it and all loaded shells easily drop out.

Let’s sweep through the specifics for some models. The 930 Hunting All Purpose Field and 930 – Turkey each have two options. The 930 Hunting All Purpose Field has two 28” models. The first has a walnut stock and blued barrel. Length of pull is 13.875”, it weighs 7.75 pounds, measures 48.5”, and it has dual bead sights. Its fraternal twin is all black with a synthetic stock that makes LOP 14” and overall length 48.625”. It has a matte blued barrel and front fiber optic sight. It weighs .25 pounds less. Both come standard with a trio of Briley Accu-Set chokes: Skeet, Improved Cylinder and Modified. These three have nifty fluted snouts and a carrying case.

The 930 – Turkey also includes two models. They have 24” barrels, 44.5” overall lengths, weigh 7.5 pounds, etc. One has a standard grip while the other has a pistol grip with finger grooves and a boot stock profile. These feature XX-Full chokes and a leafy forest colors Mossy Oak Obsession camo scheme.

The 930 Pro-Series Waterfowl and 930 Waterfowl both use a 28” barrel, Accu-Set chokes and Mossy Oak Shadowgrass Blades camo.

The 930 – Snow Goose is an outlier. Its 28” barrel is packaged in a gun that’s 52.5” long and weighs 8.25 pounds in large part thanks to its lengthy 12-round tube magazine. Capacity is 12+1, and this gun features a Kryptek Wraith camo scheme that makes it mostly white with a wintery light gray palette.
