The Mossberg Maverick 88 Security pump-action lineup includes five guns. This quintet is versatile, rugged, and affordable, capable of most any shotgun need. These guns vaunt twin action bars, dual extractors, an anti-jam elevator and positive steel to steel lockup. Optimized for security, these guns have shorter barrels and are lighter in weight than the Mossberg Maverick 88 All Purpose lineup. Thus, these are easier to maneuver and lighter to carry than their longer barrel brethren.

Mossberg 88 guns have great modular cross-compatibility with Mossberg 500 barrels.

The Maverick 88 Security lineup is all 12-gauge and has 18.5” and 20” length barrel options. Each is available in either all black or in FDE (field dark earth). The latter have FDE on the pump action and stock but are otherwise matte black on the synthetic parts and blued finishes on the metal components. Each has a cylinder bore choke.

The 18.5” barrel guns are 5+1 capacity. Length of pull is 14.5”, and weight is 6.25 pounds. Overall length is 39.5”. Again, one model is black, and one is FDE. Then we have the 20.0” barrel guns. These have an extended tube magazine making capacity 7+1. Overall length is 41.0” and weight nudges up a tad to 6.5 pounds. No surprise: one model is black, and one is FDE!

A fifth model is 18.5” barreled with a matte black ATI Shotforce Top Folding Synthetic stock. The thin leg-shaped stock is ultra-light and minimalist. It hinges at the tang and backward over the receiver and barrel. Extended length is 39.5”, and it weighs 6 pounds.

Finally, a sixth model is the Maverick 88 Security/Field Combo. It is the same as the 18.5” barreled black gun mentioned above but ships standard with an additional swappable 12-gauge, 28” barrel. In this configuration, it measures 47.75” overall and weighs 7.0 pounds. This second barrel has a modified tube choke and dual bead sights that include a gold mid-bead!

In all cases, the barrel and receiver are blued while the polymer components and the thick skeletonized ventilated buttpad are matte black. These 5+1s have a vent rib atop straight pylons punctuated by a front bead sight. For each, the barrel backs to a 3” chamber, the pump is ribbed, and the grip is textured while a cross-bolt safety inhabits the trigger guard’s front face. The guard itself has a classic racetrack oval shape that perfectly echoes the trigger’s crescent.
