The Mossberg Maverick 88 – All-Purpose and Mossberg Maverick 88 Youth – All-Purpose 5+1 capacity 12-gauge and 20-gauge pump-action shotguns are affordable, nicely balanced and aesthetically pleasing. This group of 6-shot 88s feature blued barrels, synthetic forearms and synthetic stocks that come in a variety of schemes including all-black or camo. Their barrels have 3” chambers and can fire both 2 ¾” and 3” loads.
There are six models:
Two are 12-gauge guns with 28” barrels, 14.5” length of pulls (LOPs), and 47.75” overall lengths. They weigh 7 pounds each. One is all black while the other has Mossy Oak Treestand Camo on the forend and stock.
There are also four 20-gauge guns. Two are for adults with 26” barrels, 14” LOPs, 45.25” overall lengths and 7-pound weights. One is black while the other has the same Mossy Oak Treestand Camo as the corresponding 12-gauge (above).
The last pair of 20-gauge pump-actions is for junior/smaller shooters. Each has an easier to handle 22” barrel, 12” LOP and measures only 39.75”, fully 10” less than the group’s longest. Its overall weight comes in at just 5.25 pounds. Color schemes? You guessed it: one is all matte black while the other features Mossy Oak Treestand Camo on the forend and stock.
Maverick 88s come with Modified Tube chokes. Both barrel and chokes can handle steel, lead or other non-toxic loads. They have vent ribs supported by perfectly vertical piers and topped by dual bead sights: a front bead and a mid-bead. Their aluminum alloy receivers keep these guns affordable, lightweight and easy to maneuver while still maintaining durability. Their stocks are backed by thick black spaced recoil pads with nice contours.
These All-Purpose 88s have a bolt-safety conveniently placed in the front of the trigger guard, positive steel to steel lockup, twin action bars, nicely done forend and grip texturing and dual extractors. Break open the gun, and spent casings await easy removal. An anti-jam elevator delivers you smooth operations time and time again. Finally, each comes standard with a cable lock.
