The premium Nighthawk Custom Fire Hawk M1911 style 8+1 semi-automatic pistol looks upscale, and it is. This firearm is, in one word, breathtaking.

But the Fire Hawk is more than just a pretty piece of industrial design. It’s a high-performance match gun bracketed by high-technology components.

To wit, the slide has been lightened while the 5” long match grade bull barrel is fronted by a single dorsal port compensator. These and other design features reduce muzzle rise permitting faster follow on shots. They also reduce recoil, making firing dozens or hundreds of shots easier and less tiring.

The slide and bull-nosed compensator are integrated for aesthetic and functional harmony. The same smooth nose coupled with a low profile front sight and harmonious curves also helps prevent holstering snags. The forward half of the gun is a symphony of curves. The slide stop is beveled. The trigger safety is a hatched cylinder. Unusually, the curved trigger is solid, but it’s also vertically serrated along the curve and protected by a rounded trigger guard.

In contrast, the gun’s rear half is punctuated by strong straight lines. The slide rear is serrated for good grip. The grip panels reach high up to just below the slide. The grip front and rear are stippled metal while the grip panels are the same hexagonal patterned ones as on Nighthawk’s own limited edition Agent 1 M1911. On the stainless steel version of the gun, the grips are durable G10 polymer.

Let’s cover some key metrics. First, the Fire Hawk comes in two calibers, 9 mm and .45 ACP. Its key dimensions are a stately overall length of 8.47”, height 5.6”, width 1.30” at the grip, but the slide is .92” wide.

In front is a low profile gold bead sight while at rear is a serrated back Heinie Black SlantPro. Its distinctive ski jump profile ramps down to the front optimizing it for concealed carry. The sight radius between the two sights is a generous 6.07”.

The firing pin is a .38 Super made of stainless steel. The magwell is one piece, and the gun comes with an 8 round magazine.

The Fire Hawk is finished in black nitride or, optionally, in stainless steel. This latter version has G10 grips with Nighthawk Medallions at center.

Optional upgrades abound. Owners can change barrels, finishes, frames, front straps, safeties, sights, slides and several other things.
