Olympic Arms History

In 1956 Robert C. Schuetz founded Schuetzen Gun Works and began crafting rifle barrels and barrel blanks. In 1975, after a move to Olympia, Washington, the company began manufacturing complete custom bolt-action rifles and in 1985 they expanded to AR 15-style rifles. While custom bolt action rifles continued to be marketed under the SGW brand, the new AR 15-style rifles were manufactured under the name Olympic Arms.

Olympic Arms is known today as the creator of several AR 15 features that are now considered standard. Pistol caliber conversion, AR 15 based pistols, free floating aluminum hand guards and flat-top upper receivers are just some of the company's innovations. Olympic Arms was the first company to offer AR 15-style firearms in 9x19mm, 10mm, .45 ACP and 7.62x39 and Winchester Super Short Magnum cartridges. Known as one of the few AR 15 manufacturers to make each and every part in-house, Olympic AR 15-style rifles have met stringent law enforcement and government standards around the world.
