The Remington 11-87 Sportsman Field is a 12-gauge and 20-gauge pressure-compensated autoloading (semi-automatic) shotgun. This proud classic beauty has a splendid satin-finished nicely grained American walnut forend and American walnut stock harmoniously integrated to matte blued receiver and barrel. But it’s a functional powerhouse Remington calls a workhorse for “all-around utility and classic looks for clays, field and upland hunting.”

The 11-87 first saw production exclusively in 12-gauge guise starting in 1987. The 20-gauge models joined production in 1999. And now the 11-87 still remains in steady production over three decades later. A benefit of this long production run is there are plenty of accessories available for further optimization/configuration to one’s personal tastes.

The 11-87 Sportsman Fields are 2 3/4" and 3" capable. Dual bead sights crown a vertical pylon supported vent rib. These guns work with Rem Chokes, and each includes a modified choke. Their triggers are gold-plated while their bolts are nickel-plated. There is a thick black Remington recoil pad at back.

The 12-gauge has a 28” barrel, 48 1/2" overall length and weighs 8.25 pounds. The 20-gauge has a 26” barrel, is 46” overall and weighs a pound less.

The deep-set textured checkering on the curved grip and forend truly befit the term furniture. It looks fantastic and feels great. Instead of the usual singular pennant surrounds for each, the textured zones are surrounded by pennants, fleur-de-lys, and even semi-abstract flourishes. It’s a stand-out effect on an outstanding shotgun. The cross-bolt safety at the back of the trigger guard behind the trigger uses red dot (meaning ready to fire) and white dot (safe mode) indicators.

The gas-operated Remington 11-87 Field uses gas exhausts to cycle the gun, eject the shell casing and load. Of course, this process also reduces felt recoil.
