The entry-level Remington Model 770 centerfire bolt-action rifle derives from the very famous Remington 700 series (over 5,000,000 made) and is a successor to the Remington 710 produced from 2001 to 2006. The 770 was similar but came standard with a scope and had a steel receiver (versus a polymer receiver for most 710s).

The 770 rifle has nice styling with a matte blued carbon steel barrel resting in a matte black synthetic stock. The synthetic stock has nice contouring around the grip. It has textured grips, recessed grip panels in the forend, a flush-fit magazine, integrated sling studs in front and back, a raised cheek piece and ends in a gently contoured buttpad. The bolt has nice, short, 60-degree throws. There’s a two-position F/S safety at the base of the bolt arm, and a spherical bolt knob punctuates the bolt arm.

Remington offered the 770 in .270 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, .300 Winchester Magnum and 7mm Remington Magnum.

The 770’s first two models had a 4+1 capacity, 22” long barrels and 42.5” overall lengths. They weighed 8.5 pounds. The 3+1 capacity .300 Winchester Magnum and 7mm Remington Magnum models had longer with 24” barrels and weighed 8.62 pounds. Both sizes shared the same 13 3/8” length-of-pull. The .243 Winchester 770 Youth featured a short bolt, 20” barrel, shorter 12 3/8” length-of-pull, 39.5” overall length and an easier to maneuver 8.25-pound weight.

All 770s had six-groove, button-rifling. Moreover, all featured a Bushnell Sharpshooter 3-9x40 factory-scope mounted atop heavy-duty Weaver-type scope bases that was quite popular with buyers.
