The Remington SPR-100 (aka Remington Spartan) 12-gauge / 20-gauge / .410 bore single-shot break-action lineup of field, sporting and youth shotguns were affordable and relatively unique Russian beauties that debuted in 2006 and were sold stateside until 2008.

The SPR family was made in Baikal, Russia and then imported to the US. At its core was the slender blued 26” barrel that backed to either a blued or a nickel receiver. Atop the vent rib on straight pylons was a bead sight.

Remington offered several models including the SPR100 Single-Shot Shotgun, SPR100 Single-Shot 26” Barrel, SPR100 Max Nickel Receiver, SPR100 Sporting Nickel Receiver and two youth models, the SPR100 Single-Shot Youth and SPR100 Max Nickel Receiver Youth.

The gun had beautiful, sturdy lines. Russian guns often have shorter length of pulls, and that’s very much in evidence here. However, Remington also tacked on its thick skeletonized ventilated buttpad in back. The wood has nice grain and a pleasing finish. There is checkering in pennants on the forend and stock. There’s a cocking indicator on the tang and a crossbolt safety at the back of the trigger guard and the slender locking (unlocking) lever is below that.

These guns come with a nice trigger lock and a dedicated trigger lock (unlocking) key. A ventral break-down lever makes for easy toolless maintenance. Unlatch it, take off the forend, then remove the barrel, etc. Easy! Some have American stocks while others have raised cheek Monte Carlo stocks.

SPR 100s featured fixed choke and screw choke barrels. The screw chokes had steel chokes that protruded .75” beyond the barrel or flush-mounting lead chokes.

The SPRs had 24”, 26”, 28” and 29.5” barrels with commensurate overall lengths of 39”, 41”, 43” and 44.5”. Weights ranged from 6.25 to 6.5 pounds. These guns were Made in Russia by Izhevsky Mekhanichesky Zavod.
