History of Rock Island Armory

Rock Island Armory (RIA) was acquired by Armscor Precision International in 1985. Armscor traces its roots back as far as 1905 to a small trading post in the Philippines. Armscor was first known as Squires, Bingham & Co. but was eventually bought in 1930 and renamed Sportsmen's Headquarters. In 1980, the growing company was reorganized and renamed Arms Corporation of the Philippines. In 1985, Armscor Precision International opened its first United States office in Nevada. Shortly after, Armscor acquired the Rock Island Armory brand, a leading M1911 manufacturer and developer. A third-generation family company, Armscor is becoming a global force – now exporting to over fifty countries on six continents. Rock Island Armory is now the sole producer of Armscor firearms.

Armscor and Rock Island Armory produce a variety of firearms and ammo for rifles, pistols, shotguns, and more. Rock Island Armory is best known for its series of 1911 pistols. The Rock Island Armory 1911 series consists of single-action recoil operated semi-automatic pistols that are manufactured in the Philippines. The Rock Island Armory 1911 is a clone of the US Military G.I. 1911-A1, the standard issue pistol from 1911 to 1985. With a smaller price tag, Rock Island Armory 1911s are an entry-level gun for the 1911 model. The Rock Island Armory tactical, compact, and match 1911 models offer some additional high-end features like enhanced combat sights, ambidextrous safety, and target-grade hammer and trigger.
