The Rock River Arms NM A4 16 Inch CMP LAR-15M and NM A4 20 Inch CMP LAR-15M rifles upgrade RRA’s standard NM A4 5.56mm NATO rifle. (NM stands for National Match, by the way, and this indicates the accuracy standard RRA is hitting.)

Both NM A4 CMPs are 5.56mm NATO chambered for 5.56mm NATO and .223 Caliber. Except the stainless-steel barrel, each is a matte black 20+1 capacity semi-automatic AR-type built around a 1:8” twist, air-gauged and cryogenically treated, Heavy Match stainless-steel barrel.

RRA is a vertically integrated manufacturer based in Colona, Illinois that makes many or perhaps even most key components inhouse.

These guns differ in their barrel lengths (16” vs. 20”), handguard lengths (7.25” and 12.5” respectively), accessory rail lengths (6.25” and 11.625”), overall lengths (33” and 37”) and weights (7.3 pounds and 8.7 pounds).

Both guns share all other characteristics. The upper receiver is a forged A4-type upper crested by a MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail instead of the older A2-style upper’s charging handle. The lower receiver is a forged RRA LAR-15M Rock River features on many other guns.

Each NM A4 CMP wears a RRA NM CMP TRO Rifle Length Free Float Rail Handguard. Each handguard is hard coat anodized 6061 aluminum and comes with three NM TRO Modular Rails and an NM Sling Swivel. TRO stands for Top Rail Octagonal, describing their cross-section and their Picatinny ridge rail that leads straight back to the rail atop the receiver. Additionally, there’s a three-slot receiver height sight rail atop the gas block.

Each barrel is tempered by a birdcage A2 flash hider with a 1/2"–28 TPI thread. Both have matte black textured RRA overmolded A2 knee and boot-type polymer grips. Moving down, you get a flat trigger guard bridging the magwell to grip and guarding an RRA two-stage trigger.

The vanguard is the collapsible RRA 6-Position Operator CAR stock. It includes a non-slip textured buttpad that can be vertically adjusted, two watertight battery storage tubes and a receiver extension. The totality provides tight 3/4 MOA accuracy at 100 yards. Each comes with a 20-round mag.
