The Ruger 10/22 Target Lite 10-round .22 LR auto-loader rifle is a great gun for target shooting. It comes with a uniquely styled laminate stock, 10-round detachable magazine, 16.13” barrel length, an adjustable length of pull stock and Ruger’s own light BX-Trigger that fits any 10/22. Overall length is 35.25” and weight is 5.0 pounds, so this gun is easy to carry around. That it uses inexpensive ammunition makes it affordable for frequent use.

The Ruger 10/22 Target Lite debuted in 2018, but its roots lie back in the mid-1960s Ruger 10/22 carbine, so Ruger has had plenty of time to work out details and refine production. The 10/22 Target Lite is an evolution of the slightly heavier 20” long barrel 10/22 Target. The main difference is its shorter barrel, different stock and lighter weight.

This 10/22 lacks either front or rear sights. However, it features a combination scope base adaptor that’s compatible with both the narrower (and older style) .22 tip-off and wider Weaver-type scope mounts.

The faux wood laminate has interesting lines that interact nicely with the stock’s physical contours underneath. It also has a giant thumbhole for getting comfort just right. Ruger also offers a red and black faux wood laminate variant.

The cold hammer-forged barrel is satin blued. It’s also six-grooved with a 1 to 16” RH twist and ends in a 1/2"-28 threaded muzzle and a protective muzzle cap. It’s compatible with the Ruger Silent-SR sound suppressor.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The lines are interesting. The forend, for instance, has five diagonal forward-tilted race track oval ports per side. This is a feature usually reserved for M1911 types, but not rifle stocks. In the 1911s, one can usually see the barrel underneath, but here one simply sees straight through the forend. These oval ports add style, but they are also functional and help keep the gun’s weight down to just 5.0 pounds.

Several key functions are located in easy reach. The push-button, cross-bolt safety is located just above the forward trigger guard and the bolt-lock is ergonomically located just in front of it. And moving forward once again is the paddle-style magazine release.

The 10/22 Target Lite’s Ruger BX-Trigger is optimized for target practice. It’s non-adjustable, but factory set to 2.5 to 3 pounds of trigger pull weight, which is about half of the trigger pull for Ruger 10/22s that don’t have it. This trigger breaks clean and has positive reset and minimal overtravel.

The boxy flush-mounting 10-round detachable magazine is wrapped around an internal rotor that facilitates loading and feeding in action. The Ruger 10/22 Target Lite .22 LR is put together at the Ruger facility in Newport, New Hampshire. This gun is Made in USA.
