The striker-fired polymer frame Ruger American Pistols are good looking, functional, light-weight and rugged. With double-stack architecture, they are 17+1 or 10+1 capacity for 9 mm Luger or 10+1 for .45 ACP. Both the 9 mm Luger and .45 ACP barrels have six grooves. The 9 mm Lugers have 4.2” barrels with a 1:10” RH twist while the .45 ACP barrels have slightly longer 4.5” barrels a 1:16” RH twist.

These matte-black guns are feature-laden and come standard with things like safety triggers, loaded chamber visual inspection ports, and under muzzle Picatinny rails. They have a nifty pre-tensioned striker system that lowers the required trigger pull pressure. Most models have an ambidextrous thumb safety. All have an ambidextrous slide stop and an ambidextrous magazine release.

All but two models come with premium low-profile ramped Novak LoMount Carry three-dot sights. These mount low, sit low and have a wide notch for fast target acquisition. The two outliers have Trijicon tritium night sights instead. These two are also Pro Models, meaning they come without a manual safety.

The slides are black nitride finished stainless steel while the frames are polymer. In fact, these are glass-filled nylon, one-piece frames for extra durability. They have wrap-around ergonomic grip modules. Bonus: Ruger made sure the takedown process is easy and tool-less.

The various Duty-size 10+1 .45 ACP models have 4.5” barrels, are 5.6” tall and 1.05” wide across the slide. But overall length grows to 8.0” and weight rises a smidge to 32 ounces. These guns also have a Pro Model, a Manual Safety Model, a Massachusetts-compliant model and a Trijicon tritium night sights model.
