The Ruger Blackhawk 6-shot single-action only (SAO) revolvers pack fast and flat 357 Mag, 41 Rem Mag, 45 Colt, 30 Carb, 44 Special and dual cylinder 45 Colt/45 Auto, 357 Mag / 9mm Luger, 10mm Auto / 40 S&W combinations into classical shapes. Most of these guns feature comfortable hand-filling traditional Western grips though some have the shorter, taller Bisley grips. These are combined with fluted cylinders and with frames that include fixed ramp front sights and adjustable rear sights.

There are plenty of choices that span different finishes, sizes, calibers, barrel lengths, grips and more. And don’t forget: .357 Magnum models are dual chambered; thus they can also fire .38 Special ammo.

The four main groups are Blued, Stainless, Bisley and Convertible.

The Blued revolver choices are 357 Mag, 41 Rem Mag, 45 Colt, 30 Carb caliber combined with 4.62”, 6.50”, 7.50” barrel lengths. Except a few parts, the guns look black. Thus, the frame, sights, barrel and cylinder are blued, and the checkered grips are black hard rubber. However, the upturned spurred hammers and trigger and fasteners are stainless-steel.

The Convertible series are also all blued but come with two cylinders as mentioned previously.

The Stainless revolvers have a stainless frame, barrel, cylinder, etc., with a nice wooden grip.

Finally, the trio of Bisley revolvers are all 44 Special and equipped with Bisley Black Laminate or Rosewood grips. The Bisley revolvers have a slightly different grip with a slightly sharper angle that makes these guns about .5” shorter overall than the standard Western grip guns. Bisley revolver hammers are also lowered a tad compared to non-Bisley models.

At the heart of each Blackhawk is a cold hammer forged barrel. Cold hammer forging makes for denser, purer, stronger and more durable barrels. It also permits ultra-precise rifling and thus the resulting accuracy.

The 4.62” measures 10.50” overall and weighs 42 ounces., 6.50” is 12.38” overall and weighs 45 ounces. Finally, the 7.50” barrel length measure 13.38” overall and weigh 46 ounces.

Ruger’s assemblage of all these features and traits provides target-grade accuracy. And then there are the safety aspects. Ruger thoughtfully and smartly provides a transfer bar safety. The gun won’t fire unless the trigger is squeezed, which engages the transfer bar. So, drop the gun, and it won’t fire. There is also a loading gate interlock that also provides some safety against accidentally firing the gun.

Ruger Blackhawk revolvers are made in Southport, Connecticut, and are thus Made in USA.
