The diminutive 6+1 Ruger LCP .380 Auto semi-automatic pistol is snag free, light, small and lithe. Holster the double-action striker-fired 2.75” barrel gun, and you might forget where it is. LCP stands perhaps for Lightweight Compact Pistol, Licensed Carry for Personal Protection or Lightweight Compact and Powerful. Either way works.

Beyond color, of which there are many, many choices, there are only two obvious options available on just three models in a range of 15. Two have a circular ported trigger, another has the same trigger plus photo-luminescent sights, and the third couples the standard trigger with an under-muzzle laser. We’ll explore the various models shortly. First, let’s cover general specifications and characteristics.

First, an LCP has about 35 parts. All else being equal, fewer parts helps increase reliability. The slides are hardened alloy steel while the one-piece frame is high-performance glass-filled nylon that should last for years. These pistols are 3.60” tall, .82” wide and have a 5.16” overall length. They weigh 9.6 ounces or just above half a pound. The 2.75” long 6-groove alloy steel barrels have a 1:16” RH twist.

Rounded corners and rounded surfaces abound. Except the top of the slide and around the muzzle, the profile is one curve after another under the muzzle, around the trigger guard, etc. Yet beware: this gun has a loaded chamber indicator, but no safety. Thus there is no trigger safety, thumb safety, transfer bar safety or anything else.

Ruger LCPs feature integral blackout sights baked into the slide and the grips are checkered on the sides and serrated in front and back.

There are about 12 color choices. They include different combinations of matte black, stainless or American flag motif slides on the standard matte black frame, or matte black slide on pink, purple, turquoise or other color frame, etc. A further standout combo is the black slide on Muddy Girl Camo frame. Muddy Girl is a mostly pink and black motif.

These single-stack grip guns come with a solitary 6-round magazine with counting holes that is unique to the LCP and a removable finger grip extension to give you a more assured grip should you desire.

Ruger LCP pistols are made by Ruger in Prescott, Arizona and thus Made in USA.
