The striker-fired Ruger LCP II semi-automatic pistol evolves the earlier Ruger LCP with significant, positive, changes. Like its predecessor, it is snag free, light, small and lithe wrapped around a 2.75” barrel. Like the LCP, the LCP II is also a 6+1 .380 Auto. Well, except two outliers: the 7+1 extended magazine .380 and the 10+1 .22 LR models.

While the LCP II is also snag-free, it trades its predecessor’s curved corners treatment for more diagonal surfaces with shorter curves. It looks more aggressive. Yet ironically, it’s significantly safer having Ruger’s Secure Action system that combines a bladed safety trigger and a hammer catch that only releases the hammer when the trigger is pulled.

LCP II also has a redesigned highly texturized grip. It has an upside-down “Y” accent on either grip panel. It’s eye-catching and gives the gun more visual distance from competitors. But there’s a functional reason too: there’s more grip surface and the texturing is more ruggedized, both of which provide better control and better distribution of felt-recoil across a greater surface area.

Ruger LCP IIs have integral fixed blackout sights baked into the slide and nicely curved slide grip serrations in front and back.

The slides are hardened alloy steel while the one-piece frame is high-performance glass-filled nylon that should last for years. These pistols are 3.71” tall, .75” wide and have a 5.17” overall length. They weigh 10.6 ounces. The 2.75” long 6-groove alloy steel barrels have a 1:16” RH twist and a black oxide finish. The solitary 10+1 .22 LR model is nominally different with 4” height, .81” width, 5.2” overall length and 11.2 ounce weight. But it also has the 2.75” long 6-groove 1:16” RH twist barrel.

The LCP II’s slide stays open after the last round is ejected. Each LCP II comes standard with one magazine and a removable finger grip extension floorplate for extended comfort and better grip. LCP IIs can use standard 6-round LCP magazines, but the last round hold-open trick doesn’t work with them. The LCP’s 7-round magazines don’t work with the LCP II. This centerfire double-action’s LCP moniker stands perhaps for Lightweight Compact Pistol, Licensed Carry for Personal Protection or Lightweight Compact and Powerful. Either way works.

Let’s look at a few specific examples:

Two models come standard with a laser. One has the Viridian E-Series Laser, which is the red laser, while the other has the Viridian E-Series Green Laser. Both are all-black for the slide and frame.

Other than these two and other aforementioned outliers, choices are color. There are several solid slide/frame Cerakote color combinations other than all matte black. They include Savage Silver, Jungle Green, Flat Dark Earth (FDE) and Rose Gold. There are also several hybrid black slide and different color frame mashups. The frames include the black/pink Muddy Girl camo and FDE. Other mashups include FDE slide/black frame, Sapphire PVD (blue) slide/black frame, American flag slide/black frame and last, but not least, the engaging Satin Aluminum Cerakote slide/pink frame.
