Damn. The Ruger Precision Rimfire bolt-action rifle is simultaneously breathtaking and affordable. Ruger likes to design a homerun platform and then proliferate variants to fill niches leveraging economies of scale and gaining improved quality. This rifle assembled around its clever Quick-Fit Precision Rimfire Adjustable stock is no exception.

Thirteen models span 22 LR (1:16" RH twist), 22 WMR (1:14" RH twist) and 17 HMR (1:9" RH twist) calibers. The 22 LR guns have either a pair of 10-round BX-1 or a single 15-round BX-15 magazine. The 22 WMRs models have either one 9-round JMX-1 rotary magazine or a BX-15. Finally, the 17 HMRs have either one 9-round JMX-1 rotary magazine or a single BX-15. Empty, these guns weigh 6.8 pounds.

The upper receiver has an anodized 12-slot 0 MOA Picatinny scope rail but comes without sights. The chassis is made of glass-filled nylon.

The perfectly octagonal free-float handguard is a versatile 15” length of black hard-coat anodized aluminum. It features M-LOK slots at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock surfaces (32 slots total!) and upward tilted rhombus slots in the remaining four sides.

The smooth 18” long barrel is six-grooved, cold hammer forged from highly stress resistant 1137 carbon steel alloy and has a threaded muzzle that’s 1/2"-28 TPI. It’s flash suppressor-ready but doesn’t come with one. However, it does have a muzzle thread protector.

Ruger’s Big-Gun bolt design is clever since it permits bolt throw to be changed from 1.5” to 3.0”. The large conical bolt knob is oversized for easy gloved operation. So is the oversized angled trigger guard. The safety is nicely positioned just above the Ruger AR-style grip that’s just behind the trigger. The grip has lightly textured sides and horizontal serrations at front and back.

Another important component is the Ruger Marksman Adjustable trigger. It has a double-ported trigger release and can be wrench-adjusted for a feathery 2.25 to 5 pounds of pull.

The stock has a fully adjustable butt pad assembly and cheek piece. Both the rubber butt pad and cheek piece can be raised or lowered independently of the butt pad assembly. The cheek piece also moves back and forth with the butt pad assembly. This assembly has seemingly infinite length of pull positions, but technically speaking, it has 1/16” detents. This gives a total length of pull latitude of 12" to 15.50" and overall length of 35.13” to 38.63”. Most of the movements are done via a single brilliantly designed cam lever.

The 22 LRs have their receivers, handguards, stocks, etc., finished in hard-coat anodized black or Cerakoted in American Flag, Burnt Bronze, Dark Earth Olive Drab Green or Tactical Gray. But their barrels, upper receivers, pistol grips, bolt and adjustable parts (i.e. cheek piece and butt stock) of their Quick-Fit Precision Rimfire Adjustable stocks remain black. The 22 LRs have a fun scheme: the lower receiver, stock and barrel are all striking Red Titanium Cerakote while the rest of the gun is black for everything else.

The 22 WMR 9 and 15-round guns come only in black.

Both 17 HMR 9 and 15-round guns come in black, but there is also a 17 HMR 15-round model that is Red Titanium Cerakoted for the receiver, stock and barrel while the rest of the gun is black.

All Ruger Precision Rimfire bolt-action rifles are made at Ruger’s Mayodan, North Carolina facility. Thus they are Made in USA.
