The SIG Sauer 1911 Fastback Carry Nightmare is an 8+1 Commander-size 45 Auto M1911 built around a 4.2” long barrel. The Nightmare name hints at its color: black. Specifically, it has a Nitron black finish across its stainless steel slide and frame. The flanking G10 grips are also black as are the sights. Other parts such as the big skeletonized loop hammer, skeletonized trigger, beavertail safety, thumb safety, fasteners, barrel bushing and extractor are natural stainless steel. The contrast between the black and natural stainless steel is very attractive.

Nitron is Sig’s name for its black PVD finish. PVD stands for physical vapor deposition. It looks great and makes guns corrosion resistant and more durable.

Dovetailed into the beautifully barrel-vaulted slide is a set of SIGLITE sights. The slide has no serrations in front, but it has nice long ones in back. The gun’s sight radius is a good 5.7”. The gun has an attractive upturned beavertail and underneath it a beavertail safety. Both are natural stainless steel.

This full-size single-action (SAO) gun has a 5.0” long carbon steel barrel. It is 5.5” tall, 1.4” wide and 7.7” long from front to back. With a stainless steel slide and stainless steel frame, the Nightmare weighs 38.8 ounces.

The gun has a bow-tie skeletonized trigger that sits in a classic racetrack oval trigger guard. In back is a beavertail safety. Other controls such as the thumb safety, magazine release and slide catch are on the left.

The black G10 grips have classic double-diamond styling, but thanks to their G10 material, they are tough, light and durable. They have aggressive matching and are stamped with the SIG logo. The mainspring housing and grip are rounded. The Nightmare comes with a pair of single-stack 8-round steel magazines.

These guns are made in picturesque Newington, New Hampshire, a few miles from the Atlantic Ocean.
