StG 44 Basics

The StG was a selective-fire rifle developed during World War II by Nazi Germany. It came in MP 43 and MP 44 designations, but the actual differences between each was minimal. The rifle was chambered for 7.92x33mm Kurz cartridges, which are manufactured by Privi, and meant to combine the most lethal features of carbines, sub machine guns and automatic rifles. Sturmgewehr means storm rifle and is translated into English as assault rifle. It is believed that Adolph Hitler may have had a hand in naming the weapon. The original designer was Hugo Schmeisser. It was manufactured by C. G. Haenel Waffen und Fahrradfabrik during the war and Steyr-Daimler-Puch afterward. Between 1943 and 1945, 425,977 rifles were produced.

The StG 44 is gas operated and has a tilting bolt. It was produced in automatic and semi-auto varieties and is fitted for a 30-round detachable box magazine. The rifle is able to fire about 600 rounds per minute. It has an effective range between 300 and 600 meters. Its muzzle velocity is 2,247 feet per second. The StG 44 weighs 10 pounds unloaded. It is 37 inches long, including 16.5 inches from the barrel. It is fitted with adjustable sights, with a rear V-notch and a hooded post in the front.
