The metal bodied SAR USA K12 is a big player in SAR’s wide pantheon of 9x19 mm semi-automatics. The K12 is a single-action 15/17-round capacity double-stack built around a full-size 5.1” long barrel that’s fronted by a stainless steel flash suppressor. The gun measures 1.3” wide, 5.5” tall and 9.0” long. Overall weight is 41.2 ounces, or a bit over 2.5 pounds.

There is also the 17-round K12 Sport model we’ll get to in a moment.

You can get the K12 in K12 black or a satin-look K12 stainless matte. Either way, you get tall black textured grips for both sides. The flash suppressor is top ported and has a notched recess at front bottom. The result is low muzzle lift and low recoil.

The elegant forged alloy steel slide has a long sight radius that confers improved accuracy by virtue of this same increased length. It has two pairs of seven medium-depth diagonal slide serrations in front and back. All the way at back is a nice large skeleton hammer.

The front and back sights are no frills but very nicely done. Both are blackout. The rear sight has a square-notch cutout and the “tipped over box” profile that’s typical of low cut Bomar-type sights, though these SAR sights are made in house and not by Bomar. This same rear sight is fully adjustable both for elevation and windage. This semi-automatic also has a nice beavertail.

The K12 designers implemented some good safety measures. To wit, it has a manual safety, firing pin block and a hammer block designed to prevent the gun from firing when dropped.

The gun’s curved trigger sits in a trigger guard/trigger housing that’s almost oval. Here SARS adds what might be a unique design feature. The top of the trigger surround cuts up into the frame providing a little more room for gloved finger operations. The guard’s front face is horizontally serrated for better tactile feel.

The grip is almost straight in front and back. But it has pyramid stippling on both surfaces. And the aforementioned tall black textured grips are almost unembellished except by the SARS rondel in the center of each. But each also has grip enhancing airfoil tabs.

The frame is elegant by virtue of being minimalistic. There are no superfluous lines.

The K12 Sport is largely the same as the 5.1” barreled standard K12 model. However, K12 Sport comes only with a stainless matte finish. It’s wrapped around a 4.7” long barrel. Its 8.5” long, 5.9” tall and 1.3” wide. Inexplicably, it weighs more than its larger sibling, coming in at 46.9 ounces. It’s sleeker in appearance, but shares the same overall looks with the nice beavertail and more with its bigger 5.1” barreled K12 sibling.
