The Savage 220 is a versatile single bolt-action 20-gauge turkey gun. In sum, this slug gun is the 20-gauge version of the Savage 212 Turkey. Only the sharpest of eagle eyes would be able to tell the two apart, for the simple reason they share the same overall look and feel, design, camouflage, etc.

This gun’s weight is 7.6 pounds. It has a 22” barrel and an overall length of 44.5”. The barrel and receiver are both made of carbon steel while synthetic polymer stock comes standard with a matte “Obsession” camouflage pattern designed by Mossy Oak. For those who don’t already know, Mossy Oak is the National Rifle Association's Official Camouflage Partner. Everything else is, predictably, black, to help you remain concealed. For instance, the barrel is matte black.

Speaking of barrels, the muzzle is tipped by a Winchester thread interchangeable extra-full turkey choke for dense pellet clusters downrange on target.

Like the Savage 110 and Savage 212, the Savage 220 features Savage’s AccuStock, AccuFit and AccuTrigger components.

The Savage 220’s action slots into the AccuStock rail system. AccuStock is an ingenious item of engineering beauty. It has two long tracks that extend along either side of the bed, thus providing a three dimensional framework that seats the 22” free floating blued carbon steel barrel accurately and making it very stable within the stock bed.

Savage’s AccuFit system provides the butt stock with an adjustable comb and adjustable length of pull to allow you to better align your cheek and arm for optimal comfort and sighting. AccuFit comes with four spacers. Just remove two screws and put in the spacing you want. It also has five different combs for a variety of comb heights for different cheek to stock contact for optimal eye alignment.

And the AccuTrigger system gives the gun owner the ability to adjust the trigger to his or her ideal pull. AccuTrigger also prevents the rifle from discharging when jarred or dropped.

The two round box magazine is detachable and can be easily reloaded.

Not unexpectedly, the Savage 220 is less expensive than its heavier gauge 212 sibling. The 220 has a faster 1 in 24 rate of twist versus the 212’s 1 in 35 twist.
