The Savage Arms 12 BVSS centerfire bolt-action 4+1 capacity rifles package 26” barrels with .223 Remington (1 in 9” twist ratio), 22-250 REM (1 in 12”) and .308 Winchester (1 in 10”) calibers. The BVSS stands perhaps for Laminated Heavy (Barrel) Stainless Steel. Maybe LVSS would have made more sense, but B is Savage speak for Laminate. The Savage Arms 12 series is its Varminter series. All feature 46.25” overall lengths, precision-rifled 26” barrels and short actions, and then they vary! The different models include the 12 BVSS, 12 FCV, 12 Varminter Low Profile, 12 BTCSS and 12 Long Range Precision Varminter (LRPV).

The BVSS is top loading into the internal 4-round magazine and right hand only. It famously uses the AccuTrigger Savage integrates in many products for judiciously good reason. The two-stage AccuTrigger is predictable, clean and crisp. Among other things, it’s user-adjustable across a pull pressure range of 2.5 to 6.0 pounds and prevents rifles from discharging when jarred or dropped.

The button-rifled free-floating heavy barrel is 26” of stellar, fluted, stainless-steel with a natural matte finish. The receiver also has a matte finish to its natural stainless steel and is drilled and tapped for a scope mount. You can also configure the bolt and ejection port for left-hand use. Ergonomics are excellent and include things like an oversized bolt handle.

Length of pull is 13.5” while overall length is 46.25” and weight is 10 pounds. The gun has front and rear swivel studs. The rugged laminated walnut satin-finished stock has a Varmint stock profile featuring a more vertical waterfall pistol grip, lightly contoured butt, etc.
