The Savage Arms 12 Varminter Low Profile centerfire bolt-action 4+1 capacity rifles package 26” barrels with 223 Remington (1 to 7” twist ratio), 223 Remington (1 to 9”), 204 Ruger, 22-250 (1 to 9”), 22-250 (1 to 12”), 243 Winchester (1 to 9.25”), 308 Winchester (1 to 10”) and 300 Winchester Short Mag (1 to 10”) calibers. In each case, overall length is 46.25”, and stated weight is 10 pounds.

The rugged laminated walnut satin-finished stock has a thumbhole stock and ported forend, etc. The stock looks great with superb contours and wood grain. The cheek is raised, and the butt is slightly concave and backed by a medium black buttpad.

The Varminter Low Profile design has a detachable 4-round magazine and is right hand only. It famously uses the AccuTrigger that Savage for many products for judiciously good reason. The two-stage AccuTrigger is predictable, clean and crisp. Among other things, it’s user-adjustable across a pull pressure range of 2.5 to 6.0 pounds and prevents rifles from discharging when jarred or dropped. The gun has front and rear swivel studs.

Its button-rifled free-floating heavy barrel is 26” of stellar, fluted, stainless-steel with a natural matte finish. The receiver also has a matte finish to its natural stainless steel that serves as a visual and physical connection of the matching barrel. You can also configure the bolt and ejection port for left-hand use. Ergonomics are excellent and include things like an oversized bolt handle. The gun also has a floating bolthead, permitting a more perfect lockup with the barrel and zero-tolerance headspace control that threads the barrel perfectly to the receiver and recoil lug with the tightest tolerances trueing the contact surfaces for optimal accuracy.
