The full-size SIG Sauer P250 DAO semi-automatic has models chambered for .357 SIG, .40 S&W, .45 ACP and 9 mm. It debuted around 2007 and was hailed as masterpiece of modularity and flexibility. For good reason, some said it was the most revolutionary semi-automatic in years.

The fulcrum of praise landed on the gun’s modularity. The central point is the stainless-steel upper receiver/interchangeable trigger group (also referred to as the Firing Control Unit or FCU) that houses key parts like the trigger, internal hammer, etc. Interestingly, only this component is serialized. SIG calls this the frame. In contrast, what many of us might consider the frame, SIG calls the Grip Module Assembly. The Grip Module Assembly is the polymer structure that encompasses the beavertail, trigger guard, grip, accessory rail, etc.

The modular architecture permits one to swap different slides, barrels and the Grip Module Assembly. These strong, weight-saving, polymer Grip Module Assemblies come in one color (black) and three sizes: full, compact and subcompact using 4.7”, 3.9” and 3.6” barrels respectively. All three are available in .357 SIG, .40 S&W, .45 ACP and 9 mm. However, the subcompact frame guns can also be chambered for .380 ACP and the compact frame guns come in .22 LR and .380 ACP.

P250s use black Nitron stainless steel slides for an all-black look or a matte stainless-steel slide for two-tone aficionados. Either way, the standard model has contrast sights, but some P250s use SIGLIGHT night sights. The P250 double-action only (DAO) trigger has an impressive 6.5 pounds of trigger pull weight.

Let’s talk specifically about the full size P250. Its four calibers have rather varied magazine capacities, but all take advantage of double-stack magazines and the wider grip to fit them. They are .357 SIG (14 rounds), .40 S&W (14 rounds), .45 ACP (10 rounds) and 9 mm (17 rounds). The P250 has a five-slot Picatinny rail under the recoil spring housing, finger recesses atop the grip and a horizontally serrated vertical face on the trigger guard. In back is a medium beavertail. The magazine catch is reversible and slide catch is ambidextrous. The grip is textured with a gently bulged palmswell.

The P250 has an imposing and accuracy-enhancing 6.6” sight radius. Its width is 1.4”, height is 5.5” and overall length is 8.1”. Weight with magazine is 29.4 ounces.
