The retro-styled Smith & Wesson Model 686 Plus Deluxe 3-5-7 Magnum Series revolvers features stainless steel construction, custom unfluted 7-round cylinders and silver and black 357 wooden grips. Its name derives doubly from its .357 Magnum ammo and its three barrel lengths: 3”, 5” and, you guessed it, a very imposing 7”. These guns come in two calibers: .357 Magnum and 38 S&W SPECIAL +P.
These guns use Smith & Wesson’s very popular medium size “L” platform. The trio are nicely proportioned and are exactly the same except the barrel. In each case, the overall length is 5.3” longer than the barrel. Thus the lengths are 8.3”, 10.3” and 12.3” respectively.
Model 686 Plus Deluxe 3-5-7s are single/double action. The frame, barrel and cylinder are all hewn from stainless steel.
The guns have attractive custom “357” wood grips with three good finger recesses and front and rear sights. The front one is a distinctive red ramp low profile sight. The rear sight is an adjustable white outline type. The underlug is full length while the back of the grip is nicely curved.
