The snub-nose Springfield Armory 911 semi-automatic pistol is not named for emergency calls but as an homage to the single action semi-automatic M1911 pistols on which it is based. The 911 is a single-stack compact 6+1/7+1 design for easy and convenient concealed carry, but it has been designed to still feel like a larger pistol.

It has two primary versions: the .380 ACP that has a 2.7” barrel, is 5.5” long and weighs 12.6 ounces and a 9 mm that has a 3” barrel, is 5.9” long weighing 15.3 ounces. Both are 3.9” tall and have 1 to 16 twist ratios.

Compared to full-sized pistols, the Springfield Armory 911 is shorter in both length and height and narrower too. It features Springfield’s beautifully machined lightweight T6 hard-coat aluminum frame. This makes it ideal for snag-free carry inside the belt, outside the belt, etc.

The comes in various frame finishes such as black Nitride, matte-finish stainless steel, desert FDE (flat dark earth), titanium, platinum and vintage blue. Slides also vary. Examples include black Nitride, desert FDE, titanium, graphite and stainless.

Ingenious cutting edge Pro-Glo front and rear sights are sourced from Ameriglo. The front sight is a green tritium lamp inside a yellow luminescent circle while the rear site has green tritium inside of white luminescent circles. The benefit is that these daytime/nighttime gunsights permit the gun to be used under a variety of lighting conditions. Ameriglo states that these sights will glow for up to 10 minutes after exposure to light. These might normally be expensive after-market parts, but they come standard integrated with the Springfield Armory 911 and give it a futuristic vibe.

The Springfield Armory 911’s 6 round magazine sits flush in the grip while its 7 round stainless steel magazine features an ergonomic finger rest. Like you’d expect in a gun of this quality, there is a loaded chamber indicator that pops up when there is a chambered round.

Offered accessories include American-made Viridian grip lasers available in either red or green dot varieties. They mount just above the grip and function in either constant on or pulse modes. The otherwise smooth slide has five rear-facing chevron grabs at the back and “911” embossed near the muzzle.

The muzzle has a target crown for improved accuracy. Fit and finish is excellent though there is some lateral wiggle between the slide and barrel.

The gun’s most unusual design feature is its low maintenance G-10 composite wavy green “Thinline” grip panels that functional, artistic and aesthetically pleasing. It speaks to Springfield’s design ethos that they would spend so much time designing something that will often be hidden by the owner’s hands.

The G-10 trigger is precision tuned, the ambidextrous safety is oversized for gloved hands and the gun has a full-length guide rod.

Between the 911’s compact size, advanced features, Pro-Glo sights, stand-out styling and more, the result is a remarkably usable, versatile, compelling high-tech package that would serve very nicely in a good variety of situations.

A budget 911 Alpha comes only in .380 ACP. It eschews the Pro-Glo sights in favor of a fiber-optic front sight and a white dot rear as well as simpler textured grips instead of the G-10s. It dispenses with the thumb safety and comes only with the 6 round flush magazine.
