What is a Card Security Code?

VISA / MasterCard:
The Card Security Code is a 3 digit number located on the BACK of the credit card in the signature area of the card. The Card Security Code is the last three digits located in the signature area.

If you cannot read your Card Security Code you will need to call the bank that issued you the card and ask them for the code or get them to replace the card. MasterCard and VISA call this the CVV2 number.

Discover:
The Card Security Code is a 3 digit number located on the BACK of the credit card in the signature area of the card. The Card Security Code is the last three digits located in the signature area.

If you cannot read your Card Security Code you will need to call Discover ask them for the code or get them to replace the card. Discover refers to this as the CID number.

American Express:
On American Express cards, including Blue and Optima, the Card Security Code is a 4 digit number printed on the front of the card above the card number on the far right side.
