Shipping Profile - Weight

Weight is a shipping profile that determines the cost of an item(s) based upon the following formula.

Total Shipping Cost
per class of shipping
=
+ ( Sum of all the weight of an item(s) ) *
+ Any Handling Cost
+ Any Insurance Cost

Here are the steps to create a "Weight" shipping profile:

STEP 1
You need to enter a unique name for your "Shipping Profile". It would be wise to name this profile something that is descriptive of what is will be used for. EG: "Ammo Shipping Cost", "General Shipping Rules", "Real Heavy Things"
STEP 2
You need to choose your type of "Shipping Profile". In this case, you will be choosing "Weight".
STEP 3
At this time, you can enter any assoicated handling cost that may be need to package your item. If you do not charge any handling cost, then you can leave this field blank or enter 0.
STEP 4
At this time, you can enter insurance cost that may be need to package your item. You can choose from the following:
  • No Insurance - You do not charge insurance or do not know what the insurance cost will be at this time.
  • Percentage of Total - You charge insurance based upon a percentage of the item total.
  • Flat Rate - You charge a flat rate for insurance.

STEP 5
Now you need to select the weight unit for this weight profile.
STEP 6
If you want to deactivate this "Shipping Profile", then all you need to do is uncheck the "Active?" check box. If there are any items associated with this "Shipping Profile" will fail to relist if a "Shipping Profile" is not active.
STEP 7
On the this step, you will need to fill out the shipping cost for every class of shipment that GunBroker.com makes available. If you only support 2 classes of shipping, then all you need to fill out is those 2 classes of shipping tabs.
Weight shipping profile types is a range based profile. It is best to just answer the question presented. "Weight greater than or equal X will cost $Y"
STEP 8
Lastly, you will need to click "Save".

The best way to explain how Weight type profile works is through an example. Lets persume you ship items overnight, 2nd day, and 1st class. You would fill in the following shipping data.
NOTE: You may ship using more or less shipping classes.

Handling Cost$3
Insurance Cost$1 flat fee
Overnight
Weight greater than or equal 0 lbs will cost: $10.00
Weight greater than or equal 10 lbs will cost: $20.00
Weight greater than or equal 20 lbs will cost: $30.00
Weight greater than or equal 30 lbs will cost: $40.00
2nd Day
Weight greater than or equal 0 lbs will cost: $5.00
Weight greater than or equal 15 lbs will cost: $10.00
Weight greater than or equal 25 lbs will cost: $15.00
Weight greater than or equal 35 lbs will cost: $20.00
Weight greater than or equal 40 lbs will cost: $32.00
1st class
Weight greater than or equal 0 lbs will cost: $1.00
Weight greater than or equal 1 lbs will cost: $5.00
Weight greater than or equal 9 lbs will cost: $9.00

Now lets say you have someone who wants to buy 10 items from you. The weight on each item is 1 lbs. ( NOTE: You will have to assign weight to an item when you list otherwise you will not be able to assign a weight type shipping profile to an item ) This buyer will be able to see the exact cost for his 10 items on our View Item page and in the GunBroker.com Checkout system. This is what they would see.
 Total Cost = ( Weight of all items range cost ) + ( Handling Cost ) + ( Insurance )
Overnight$24 = ( 10 lbs range is between 10 lbs and 20 lbs = $20.00 ) + $3 + $1
2nd Day$9 = ( 10 lbs range is between 0 lbs and 15 lbs = $5.00 ) + $3 + $1
1st class$13 = ( 10 lbs range is between 9 lbs and greater = $9.00 ) + $3 + $1

There are many different ways to setup a "Weight" profile. After you have saved your changes to a "Weight" profile, GunBroker.com give you a way to test your profile before assigning it to any auctions. If you want to use the GunBroker.com test screen, all you will have to do is click on the "select" button on the Shipping Profiles grid.
