GunBroker.com is renaming a number of their categories to better match what is contained within the category and to make the names more meaningful to the user at each level. As an example there are currently 3 categories named Semi-Auto. They are contained within Pistols, Rifles and Shotguns. These categories will now be Semi Auto Rifles, Semi Auto Pistols and Semi Auto Shotguns.

Why is this change important? The new category names match the way people look for things online. This helps buyers find what they are looking for and helps a seller's item get found. Sure it is easier to stick with the category names we have all grown accustom to but this change is critical to continuing to provide the most exposure for sellers items and allowing buyers to find what they are looking for. Hopefully you will understand the reasoning behind this important change.

The list below contains the current category name on the left and the updated category name on the right. Category names that have changed in any way are noted with ">>>" and in blue text. While a lot of names have changed, The changes are mostly small and help clarify the category.

A few new categories have been added within Knives and Hunting Gear.

Class 3 items and Black Powder / Muzzleloader items will have their own top level category.

This change is scheduled to occur December 12, 2011. For those that list via the Bulk Lister or APIs, please note that category numbers / category IDs are NOT changing.
