The Thompson/Center COMPASS UTILITY is a handsome blued barrel composite stock bolt-action rifle you can get chambered in .243 Winchester, .308 Winchester, .223 Rem/5.56x45mm, 6.5 Creedmore, .270 Winchester or .30-06 Springfield. All come standard with a beautiful blued barrel, matte black synthetic stock and have a 13.25” length of pull.

The COMPASS UTILITY centerfire lineup is no-frills but accurate, which is a good combination Thompson Center uses to keep the gun quite affordable. But somehow, it still has guaranteed 1 MOA accuracy at 100 yards with premium ammo.

The guns are 5+1 capacity and have 21.625” 5R barrels and set up for right-handers. These then fall into two subgroups: .243 Winchester (1:8” twist ratio), .308 Winchester (1:12”), .223 Rem/5.56x45mm (1:9”) and 6.5 Creedmore (1:8”) are 41” long overall and weigh 7 pounds. The .270 Winchester (1:8”), .30-06 Springfield (1:8”) are 41.5” overall and weigh 7.25 pounds.

They have nice texturing on the forend and grip and two swivel studs. The buttstocks have a nice thick black recoil mitigating recoil pad.

The lineup uses a 3-position safety for fire, locked and load/unload modes. The safety is designed for both tactile and visual confirmations of the gun’s current status.

The T/C COMPASS bolt has a 3-lug design for quick, fast and secure locks. The correspondingly short 60-degree throws give the bolt handle plenty of clearance from the mounted scope and fast cycles for follow up shots. Moving below, the T/C Generation I trigger has 4.5 to 5.5 pounds of pull.

The T/C COMPASS UTILITY comes standard with a 5-round flush-mount detachable polymer rotary magazine for standard calibers. Its polymer construction makes the magazine rustproof but durable.

Except the 223/5.56, all are also available with a Crimson Trace scope package that includes a multi-coated weather-resistant 3-9x40 Crimson Trace scope, scope mounts and the scope bases. The scope has capped turrets and a black satin anodized tube.
