The 12-gauge, 20-gauge, 28-gauge and .410-gauge TriStar Setter S/T Over-Under Shotgun is a compellingly affordable and entry-level arm. The gun features a steel monobloc barrel construction for rigidity and durability, sealed actions, self-adjusting locking lugs and nicely engraved scrolling over the receiver. The pattern is leafy scrollwork in a repeating pattern you might expect in a Sultan’s palace!

Forend and grip hatching is inscribed within horizontal pennants along the front and a grip following contoured pennant for the trigger hand. But there is also decorative work on the barrels, atop the tang barrel selector, and there is a step-pyramid design element crowning the ambidextrous top tang safety. There is also the single selective trigger that fires in the order set per the barrel selector, and more.

Note: the barrel selector can only be changed when the safety is slid back to the safe position. Pushing the lever to the left sets the bottom barrel to fire first and pushing it to the right sets the gun to fire the top barrel first. When the safety is slid back, it drop-proofs the gun by locking the trigger, hammer and hammer sear.

The Setter S/Ts feature extractors rather than ejectors. With extractors, spent casings stay in the gun but remain in easy reach. With ejectors, the casings fling free, and you might have to hunt them down. Both have their benefits, but a really big benefit of the extractors is their affordability.

Both the 3” chamber and the 28” barrels are chrome-lined for durability. Each Setter ships standard with five Beretta/Benelli Mobil-style chokes (CT-5 Skeet, Improved Cylinder, Mod, Imp Mod, Full: aka SK, IC, M, IM, F). Fit and finish are impeccable. Both forend and grip are made of a nice high gloss finished Turkish walnut.

The top barrel is crested by a vented rib that is in turn topped by a red fiber optic bead. The rib has glare-cutting hatching along the top. And there is a nice mid-rib between the two barrels.

In back, the buttpad has two types of rubber. There is hard rubber at the top and a grippier softer rubber supported by a recoil-absorbing skeletonized framework for the rest.

The 12-gauge, 28-gauge and .410 gauge all have 28” barrels. They weigh 7.2 pounds, 6.3 pounds and 6.2 pounds respectively. The 20-gauge has a 26” barrel and weighs 6.5 pounds.
