The 12-gauge Weatherby Orion I has 26”, 28” and 30” barrel models. Both are gorgeous with eye-catching gleaming high-gloss chrome-lined monobloc barrels, a matte vented rib and solid mid-rib, bead sight, and glossy A-Grade walnut with pennant surrounds circumscribing beautiful hatching. Both the trigger and the WEATHERBY name engraved in the low-profile blued receiver are gold.

The receiver is devoid any real ornamentation or scrollwork, but the top of the vent rib is crosshatched to mute glare. The gun has an ambidextrous top tang safety and tang barrel selector just in front of it. Push the safety forward, and it locks the barrel selector and simultaneously reveals a red dot so you know to be extra careful.

There is something enthrallingly classic about the gun’s lines. While it’s a very modern gun with modern tolerances and all the tricks of the modern manufacturing trade, its simple harmonious lines evoke an earlier time by lacking anything that looks fabricated by an overly mechanized or automated fashion. And this is punctuated by the blued receiver against walnut looks.

Of course, these guns have more great features such as automatic ejectors. When you break open the shotgun with ejectors, the empty casings fling free. So, if you’ve fired one and break open the gun, only that spent casing is ejected while the unfired cartridge remains in the gun. They also feature a boxlock action with dual pin lock.

Both barrels have wear-mitigating chrome-lined bores and back up to 3” chambers. The 26” and 28” barrel guns weigh 7.0 pounds while the 30” barrel gun weighs 7.5. The forend has a supple contour while the stock has an elevated Prince of Wales grip. The Weatherby Orion I O/U shotguns come with a trio of chokes: full, modified and improved cylinder. They are Made in America in Sheridan, Wyoming.
