Winchester Repeating Arms’ retro nostalgia Model 1892 Large Loop Carbine is classically styled and evokes Westerns, cowboy rodeo shooting, Annie Oakley, John Wayne and more. Designed by legendary John Browning, this design is now over 125 years old. In this time, over a million have been made.

The Model 1892 Large Loop Carbine comes in four pistol caliber guises: .357 Mag (1 to 18.75 twist), .44 REM Mag (1 to 26), .44-40 WIN (1 to 36) and .45 Colt (1 to 26). Regardless of caliber, the carbine’s key metrics are the same: 6.0 pound weight, a full-length 10 round tube magazine, a 20” barrel and an overall length of 37.5”. In all cases, the gun’s modest 12.75” length of pull, light weight, ease of use and mild recoil makes it comfortable for younger shooters.

Let’s start at the top. The carbine has a front bead sight and an adjustable rear sight. The safety is atop the tang, making it easy to see and right where you’d want it.

The barrel, receiver, trigger and trigger guard are steel, and the barrel, receiver, bolt slide and trigger are all brush polished. The barrel has been button rifled, and it also has a recessed crown to protect it. The stock is an elegant black walnut with a luxurious satin finish. At back is a durable steel strap butt plate stock protector.

The loop is not only retro in style, but practical in function. Its large oval makes it easy-to-use with gloved hands and provides plenty of leverage for fast cycles.

So what’s missing? It’s not drilled for a scope nor does it have swivel studs. But it does have a left-side saddle ring to attach to your saddle!

Perhaps surprisingly, this all-American gun is Made in Japan.
