Another "No Reserve" Penny Auction from Dust 2 Dollars.
Fine Estate & Consignment Firearms!

Chuck Karwan

We offer you a rifle from the Chuck Karwan collection. Chuck was a West Point Graduate, a Bronze Star recipient for his service during the Vietnam war, and a firearms expert and writer. To read more about him; Click Here!

We are proud to have several of his firearms from his collection to auction and sell. Each buyer will be provided a C.O.A. stating the firearm was from his collection and signed by D2D and his wife along with the gun information.

This auction is for one of Chuck's TOP THREE guns from his collection. It has been sitting for decades and from what we were told was never taken out to the range. We offer you an exceptional example of a very scarce all original British L42A1 Sniper rifle. These rifles were developed in the mid-1960s using the original WWII British Enfield No 4 MK 1 (T) sniper rifle as the base weapon. It is estimated that only 800 rifles total were ever produced with approximately 400 imported by Navy Arms in the mid 1990s with all remaining rifles destroyed by the British Government. The conversion process entailed stripping the original rifles to the bare action, installing brand new, heavy weight, hammer forged barrels, chambered in 7.62 NATO, along with a new high pressure bolt head, (correctly marked and proofed for 19T). They also installed new shorter length, redesigned handguards to free-float the barrels for improved accuracy. The left side of the butt socket is marked with the old markings of: "M47C/1943/AU1717/TR" and the left side of the receiver has the new markings of "L42A1D74/T". The old No. 32 MKIII scopes were completely stripped, rebuilt and recalibrated for the 7.62 NATO round, with the original WWII scope markings of; TEL. STG. 32MK3/OS2039A" lined out, with new NATO markings of; "TELSTRT.STG.L1A - 1240-99-963-2063 - OS2429 G.A." applied to the tube. The original matching scope mount was retained and now shows both the original rifle serial number and the same re-stamped serial number, with the rings numbered, H87 and H88 respectively. The scope is complete with an original set of black leather scope covers with no markings that I could see. The scope and mount are housed in a No.8 metal scope can stamped "OS. 906A - CASE. STAG. TEL. No8 - B&Co. and on the top of the lid is hand painted "17062". Inside it is hand painted with the rifle serial number (AU1717). Also inside the lid a new set of instructions for adjusting the telescope has been glued in. The buttstock is made of walnut and the handguards and cheekpiece are made from beech or hardwood. The rifle itself is complete with one 10 round magazine. The rifle is housed in the original British issue green painted wooden storage chest. That has no serial number on it that matches the rifle. And we have shown the case as it is inside and outside with the inside being in excellent condition. The outside shows dings, marks, writing and tags.

The scope can is in excellent condition as you can see in all the full sized high resolution pictures below. The scope is also in excellent condition with the optics being excellent inside and out. The scope covers show the "green" reaction oxidation on one end from sitting on it for decades! That reaction has taken away some of the black paint surface. The "green" oxidation is still on the ends of the scope. The new owner can clean that off or leave it. The rest is in excellent condition and the scope is shown from both sides for your consideration.

The rifle is in near mint condition inside and out. It appears that Chuck never took the rifle out for use and it has been stored for decades until now. The bore on the rifle is in "MINT" condition as you would expect. We have shown every inch of this rifle and the markings in the pictures. So you can judge the condition for yourself. All the markings are correct and all of the serial numbers and part numbers are matching. Feel free to email us if there are any questions that you might have.

Shipping will be determined at the end of the auction based on the winning bidders location. Shipping WILL NOT BE CHEAP! The wooden case will ship in a box by itself. The scope and rifle will also be shipped individually also. The size of the chest is heavy and large and with the overall value of this package. Shipping will be estimated only right now of approximately $200. That is just an estimate but some people will email us and ask for that, so I'm listing it here; ESTIMATE ONLY!

In the case of a return, buyer pays all return costs. This does not cover items damaged in shipment; you must save the damaged shipping box and file a claim with the appropriate shipping company. All items must be in the exact condition that they left us in. The inspection period does not include the firing of the firearm.
