Fine Estate Consignment Firearms & Accessories!

Auction Item Description

This auction is for an all original U.S. Springfield model 1873 Trapdoor rifle in 45-70 Gov't caliber. The rifle was manufactured in 1889 and is considered an "Antique" with no FFL being required. The rifle still has the cleaning rod with it as most are missing by now during the last 128 years of being around. The stock finish appears original and has that appearance that only comes with age. There are several dings and marks but no chips, cracks or repairs. Which is not something you see that often anymore. The bore is in excellent condition being bright with fine lands and grooves with no pitting. Which is another nice feature of this rifle. The metal finish is very fine with some light spots of minor surface pitting. The rifle hasn't been cleaned, polished or sanded on! We know from the estate the rifle has been sitting in a gun safe for over 60 years now. The pictures show the rifle in "as found" condition. The new owner can clean her up if they want to, we didn't.

The barrel ahead of the trap door is stamped with “V” over “P”, an eagle head, another “P” and “A”. The trapdoor is stamped “US / MODEL / 1873”, and behind the door on the receiver is the serial number “432170”. The lock plate is marked with the shielded eagle with arrows, then “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD”. The top of the buttplate is stamped “U.S.” The cartouche on the left side is very distinct and clear as shown in one of the full sized high resolution picture below. As is the complete rifle for you consideration. The butt plate is marked “U.S.” and both barrel bands are "U" marked. As shown it a very legible SWP 1888 cartouche.

This auction will ship UPS Ground to you where allowed for $40.
