Correction: The following is a quote from one of our customers, "Your DW 445 is not from the 80s. It was made in early 2000s, probably 2001 by Bob Serva, the owner of Dan Wesson who moved operations from Palmer, Mass. to Norwich, NY. The equipment he bought when he bought the company was obsolete and worn out. He used all new CNC machines to craft the finest Dan Wessons made, IMHO. prior to that the frames were investment cast. The first number of guns made in Norwich were called First Issue. Your gun is one of them".

The Dan Wesson 445 SuperMag is a versatile revolver system providing the options of ammunition and barrel interchangeability. Well proven in the hunting field, the 445 SuperMag has been a champion of big game hunting for decades. The 445 SuperMag, with approximately 25%-35% more performance than the standard 44 Magnum, is a superior long range hunting and target revolver. Capable of knock-down performance surpassing 200 yards for Silhouette and 150 yards for hunting applications. Versatility in ammunition is natural to the 445, allowing the user to chamber and fire 445 SuperMag ammunition or any of the standard 44 caliber variants. You can also use 44 special and 44 magnum ammunition in your 445 SuperMag. The 445 is built to the highest hand crafted master gunsmith standards. The rugged design of the revolver allows it the strength to handle high performance cartridges demanded by today’s hunting and long range target shooters. The modern design and grip angle allow for a well balanced revolver that tames the recoil and allows great control. Additional vent heavy and compensated barrel assemblies are available for additional lengths and are easily changed by the customer.

Up for auction is a rare Dan Wesson hand cannon. This is the 7445-VH10 revolver is chambered for .445 Super Magnum cartridges. The vent-heavy (VH) 10” barrel distinguishes this revolver from all others. She is supremely balanced and creates a most intimidating “Super Magnum” launch platform. God help whatever finds itself on the wrong side of this barrel. Serial number is: Z00221. She is believed to be manufactured in the late 1980's. All mechanical actions on this Model 44 function perfectly. Lock in is rock solid with zero trigger push. The rear sight is adjustable and the front red insert ramp tracks with precision. Cylinders are fluted and the bore crisp. You can tell from the forcing cone and recoil shield that this DW has seen very little use. Possibly factory test fired only. Factory stainless steel is in factory delivered condition and the black rubber combat grips provide plenty of positive traction. This gun is not for everyone, that is for sure….But if she is all you had in the end, you got to feel pretty good about your chances. Have a look and see if this .445 Super Magnum is right for your personal protection needs. When you hold her up and squeeze the trigger, you'll appreciate what the Dan Wesson devotion is all about. We have attached multiple Hi-Definition photographs in various lighting conditions for your review and consideration. She comes as photographed.

Dan Wesson History

The company was founded in 1968 by Dan B. Wesson. Karl R. Lewis invented the main features of Dan Wesson Revolvers. The company has seen lots of struggles and various changes in ownership throughout its history. After the purchase of Smith & Wesson by the Bangor-Punta manufacturing concern, Daniel B. Wesson set out to open his own manufacturing operation in order to produce high quality, American made revolvers for service as well as competition use. Wesson was aware of Karl Lewis's modular designs which had been proposed during Lewis's tenure with Browning, and then further refined during a period spent with High Standard. Having purchased a former school building in Monson, Massachusetts, Wesson signed a production agreement with Lewis, and began setting up the necessary machining and manufacturing equipment. Urging Lewis to prepare prototypes for display at major gun shows, Wesson began tirelessly promoting the company, while working to build a sales network as well as a positive perception of the fledgling company. Way back in the 1980s Dan Wesson Arms produced some of the finest, most accurate, and popular large- and medium-frame revolvers ever made in America. In the demanding sport of handgun metallic shooting–where competitors are required to use open sights to knock down life-size, heavy steel (up to 60 pounds) representations of chickens, pigs, turkeys, and desert bighorns out to 200 meters–Dan Wesson revolvers literally owned the ranges. Dan Wesson revolvers regularly captured 70 to 80 percent of the top places in the highest categories of these competitions year after year at local, state, regional, and national matches and at the annual International Championships. Dan Wesson revolvers still hold more records and titles in that sport than all other makes of revolvers combined. Despite this record of success, however, Dan Wesson was a small company as compared to other famous-name handgun makers, and during the 1990s it fell on hard times. It went through a series of largely unsuccessful financial reorganizations and ownership changes with relocations of factories and erratic production, and it fell pretty much off the firearms industry radar except for die-hard long-range revolver fans. In 2010 Dan Wesson Firearms Co. was purchased by CZ-USA. (
