An original Model 1836 Flintlock Pistol by Robert Johnson, Middletown, Connecticut, 54 caliber smoothbore, 8 1/2" round barrel. Lock plate crisply marked "US R. Johnson Middn Conn 1836. "NWP" inspector marking on barrel, Clear inspector's cartouche on left side of stock. This was the last US martial flintlock produced. Many collectors regard this as the best made, most attractive and best performing of all US military flint handguns.CONDITION: Lock plate, hammer and frizzen retain an attractive aged patina. The other iron parts are finished bright. Wood is solid, unsanded. There is a tiny, tight hairline crack located at the left of the inspector's cartouche (see pic. #29). Mechanical function is excellent and very tight. Bore is frosty bright with light corrosion. Overall a very attractive US martial flintlock pistol. No FFL required for this antique.
